The Cadillac Celestiq is the latest concept from Cadillac and promises a return to exciting and daring vehicles designs. There is confirmation that this will become a production electric car, but will be delivered as a saloon.
Huge LED displays, ‘smart glass’ roof and hands-free cruise control are a few of the features unveiled so far. The ‘Ultra-Cruise’ is intended to be the next evolution of technology for Cadillac. The ‘Ultra-Cruise’ will be an autonomous driving feature comparable to Tesla’s Autopilot. Cadillac predict the software will cover 95% of driving scenarios on 2 million miles of roads in the US.
The Celeste electric car will draw it’s power from a Ultium battery pack that could be as large as 100 kWh, giving a rough estimate of 300 miles. But Cadillac have even larger batteries in development so this is only a rough estimation.
Each Celestiq is planned to be completely hand-built and have ‘unlimited’ customisation options. This will come with a hefty price tag of approximately $300,000 before any customisation has been made. The Celestiq electric car will be manufactured as GM Motors new $81m Global Technical Center at which they are planning to make around 500 a year.
The Celestiq electric car is said to be ‘the purest expression of Cadillac’ and ‘inspired by the brands 120-year heritage’.
