The electric bike division of Yamaha, Yamaha Power Assist Electric Bicycles, has launched two new electric bikes, in the YDX-MORO line. The YDX-MORO series was unveiled two years ago, with its radical split, cage like frame and top of the range mid motor, we are now seeing the latest updates.
This latest update features the PW-X3 motor, the pinnacle of Yamaha’s electric motor creation. The new YDX-MORO models bring improved range, more torque, advanced component tech and a new form of power delivery all packed into a lighter bike.
Yamaha’s PW-X3 motor is claimed to deliver a major performance boost. The torque is upgraded to 85 Nm and delivers a continuous 250W of power. Although Yamaha say it is capable of 500W in its maximum power mode.
The YDX-MORO electric bikes come with many riding modes, Eco, Standard, High, MTB, Extra-Power and Automatic-Mode. The automatic mode allows the bike to intelligently choose the appropriate riding mode based on the current riding conditions, braking behaviour and selected other factors. Both models assist up to 20mph in order to comply with US Class 1 e-bike designation. The European version is yet to be announced.
The bikes feature a ‘Quad-Sensor’ technology, which Yamaha claim is the most intuitive pedal assist feedback on the market, and provides immediate torque response the moment force is applied to the pedals. The PW-X3 drive unit is 10% lighter and 20% smaller while still being more efficient and more powerful.
The YDX-MORO 05 will be priced at $5,799.99 and the upgraded YDX-MORO 07 at $6,399.99. The 07 comes with an upgraded Magura MT5 hydraulic brake disc, higher spec suspension and gear cassette.
Yamaha are cited with having made the first electric assist bike nearly 30 years ago and are looking to continue being innovators in this area.
