Best Electric Motorbike Yet? Harley Davidson / LiveWire release new S2

Nearly 3 years after the launch of the LiveWire One in 2019, LiveWire, the spin off electric motorcycle / e bike brand from Harley Davidson, have launched the S2 Del Mar.

There are only 100 units of the special ‘Del Mar’ launch edition, which have already sold out, and are looking to be delivered to their customers in Spring 2023.

Specific numbers have not been released, the only current statistic is the 80 horsepower the electric motor is set to produce. However without a torque figure, it is difficult to judge the power of the electric motor. With a weight of less than 440 Ibs the bike can manage 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The final information is that the bike can reach a 100 miles of range.

The estimated MSRP figure is $15,000 for the S2 which is significantly cheaper than the S1. The S2 is intended to be an advanced, affordable and ecological electric motorcycle.

Electric transport company, Nikola have unveiled their concept electric jet ski, the Wav.

The sleek, futuristic jet ski includes a waterproof 12-inch 4K display, LED lighting, cruise control and a brand new adaptable battery system.

This electric jet ski is said to be influenced by superbike styling and includes bow to stern storage. This jet ski will be followed up with a smaller, stand up version.

Nikola have said the WAV will have zero environmental impact (which is not true of any battery-powered vehicle) 

BMW's tilting electric cargo bike might be the future of trikes

BMW have designed an electric cargo bike called the, Dynamic Cargo, which has a unique tilting pivot to help increase stability and keep loads stable as the user makes tight turns. Reports now suggested that the bike brand, Cube, have turned the design into a real, rideable electric trike / electric bike.

The Dynamic Cargo is a collaboration between the two German vehicle companies. The central axel allows for the front part of the electric trike to tilt into the bends without tilting the back of the electric trike. Which, in comparison to current electric trikes, allows for much greater stability.

The electric trike is rear-wheel drive, which prevents the ‘pull’ felt on many electric trikes leading to a smoother ride. The load capacity totals 220kg with extra storage available on an optional front carrier. The rear cargo bay can be adapted with seats for one or two children, complete with five-point seatbelts and a rain cover. The electric trike includes integrated lighting for poor weather

As of yet, cargo bikes have been reserved for couriers and businesses looking for a sustainable, quick and cheap way of distributing packages. Concepts like the BMW electric cargo bike may open up this field for families looking for ways to transport their groceries or take their family on trips.

The 'Mean Lean Machine' is a radical new form of electric trike

Companies have been on the search for more innovative methods of electric transport and electric trikes and becoming more of a viable solution. 

Arcimoto’s new ‘Mean Lean Machine’ (MLM) is the newest example of new style of electric trike. This is a tilting electric trike where the front part of the electric trike tilts for cornering while the seat and the loading platform at the rear remains still and stable.

The tilting aspect of the electric trike allows for extra traction, greater stability and improved braking ability. These electric trikes include hub motors and a pedal generator. Other similar electric trikes exist, such as the new BMW Dynamic Cargo concept, recently licensed by Cube, and set to be developed by Swiss company, SoFlow.

The suspension on the MLM allows riders to handle the high speeds capable by the bike without the risk of coming off the bike when cornering.
